well, theres been quite a lot going on so im not sure where is best to start, but ive had some really damn good nights and days out over the last few weeks, so i thought id do a bit of a roundup of the highlights or "greatest hits" as i like to think of them.
friday 13th june
it could have been a horror and in some ways it was slightly, but on friday night i went to a wierd occurance known as a silent disco. this basically consists of hundreds of people all dancing around in a room with wireless headphones on. this may sound a bit pointless to some, but actually, i had an amazingly good time. aside from the change of venue (originally it was meant to be on the roof of the queen elizabeth hall at the southbank centre, but probably due to inclement weather forecast, they decided to move it inside - making something that could be likened to a massive sauna), the technical difficulties (daddy g of massive attack was scheduled to be playing, but initially forgot his record collection so had to get them biked over from bristol and then when he did play, it seemed that he had some wierd electro magnetic effect on the equipment while the other djs sets were going without hitch) and the fact that i was a little cream crackered anyway, it was a night very well spent.
the weirdest thing is that there are two channels of music that you can listen to. so while you are dancing away to your channel you dont really notice, but if you stop and look up, you notice that half the people in the room are grooving away to some other rythmn. makes for quite a funny sight.
the music all in all was pretty good. a few classics thrown in there for good measure and the night made by the playing of youve got the love over the instrumental part of massive attacks safe from harm. genius.
highly recommended.
saturday 14th june
after a nice dinner with my smashing friend sooz, my brother and i went to see flying lotus (or FlyLo to his friends) at the hearn st carpark in east london.
and goddamn that was good. it went something like this...
hyperdub, dubstep, old school hip hop, stupid drinks tokens, amazing cds, free stickers, baggy jeans, nike parra windrunners, head bobbing, rewinds, plenty of bassface, the biggest drops youve ever heard, djs with mad big hair and crazy energy, kode 9, samiyam, caps, sneakertastic feet, smiles, hands in the air and one of the best nights that ive been to in a long while. i think its something about that venue.
i think a friend mat puts it best on his flickr group that he set up, dedicated to the wonderful carpark club...
If you don't know where it is, you haven't heard a great sound system.
sunday 15th june
ok, so after two late nights out, the last thing that you may expect me to write here is that i then got up at 7.30 am to make my way to clapham common for the 2008 london to brighton bike ride.
no, you might not expect that. it would be rather silly wouldnt it.
but thats exactly what i did.
and it was fun. all the way.
massive thanks to everyone who sponsored me and my brother. we have raised about £400 for the british heart foundation. which is great. a huuge bonus.
so yeah, that was my weekend in a nutshell. next weekend, new york...
