Despite most right-minded people yelling, ‘nooooooo! It can’t be done!’ or ‘Nooooooo! It shouldn’t be done!’ or even ‘Noooooo! It can’t, and shouldn’t be done!’, Warner Bros. is pressing ahead with plans to turn the anime classic, Akira – the manga film for those who can’t stand manga – into a live-action American film.

if anyone is up for it, im totally prepared to start some large scale petition to bring this travesty to an end. maybe if enough of us sign on the dotted line to say that no matter how much money they throw at this venture - we will not be entering the cinema to see their stinky remake of one of the most seminal pieces of japanese anime of all time (also no longer set in neo-tokyo but in new manhattan and yes, those american military will surely be involved, what a joy). at some point the film industry needs to stop and take a good long look at itself and understand that there are some things that are just too sacred and precious to go around creatively raping them for cash.
whos with me?
I nearly wept , It's almost a criminal offence, I am all for the Japanese to take and make the money, but knowing that it would be a poor diluted "hollywood-ised " rubbish version of a great manga comic , and an equally great film classic...It's juts wrong
Am I alone in thinking a bad , even average adaptation should result in jail time...??

no, i dont think you are alone at all...
my friend jess had a good idea, wondering if we can get jonathon ross onboard to try and lobby to get big cinemas to screen the original akira movie 6 months before the new one is released. so that everyone is put off going to see it, or at least those who dont know the story of akira will get a better representation of it to start with.

Ah yeah, and then we'll have advertising all over london with "you've seen the film, visit the set" with a picture of Akira.
